Do I need to know how to march before joining the program?
Marching is a skill that is not taught in most middle schools. During Band Camp, we dedicate a day for freshmen/newcomers to learn the basics of marching!
Do I need to audition to join the program?
Our program accepts students of all levels from “I have never touched a clarinet” to “I am bound for Julliard”. Everyone is welcome to join!
How does scheduling work if I have conflicting event?
Because our calendar is set and scheduled ONE YEAR ahead, we expect everyone to make the rehearsals and performances. However, unexpected events are bound to happen, so communicating with our directors is key! Shoot our directors an e-mail, write a note, or see them in their office.
Do band kids have lives outside of band?
Although our program requires a lot of commitment, our students are active in many activities outside of band. We have students who are Advanced Placement scholars, members of many campus clubs, volunteers in the community, and CIF athletes.
What are the venues that the Concert Band and Orchestra perform in?
During the holiday season, we perform in our “cafetorium” (fancy cafeteria). During festival season, we perform at Garden Grove High School and Segerstrom Center. In our spring concert, we perform at the Huntington Beach High School Auditorium.
